Pete Renner was diagnosed on March 1st, 2004 with a brain tumor, (Glioblastoma multiforme, stage 4) and was given a year to live. Today, Pete lives in Florida with his beautiful wife and their baby daughter. Pete's tumor has shrunk to almost half its size from the treatment of radiation and Chemo, (Temader), prayers, and 1200 people showing up to support him on June 13th, 2004 at his poker run.
Ashley was in an auto accident when she was 3 years old leaving a hole in her heart. It was discovered when she was 10 years old and the first operation was unsuccessful. You helped us raise about $6,000 that helped the family secure the doctors needed, and on the day of the run, Ashley had her second surgery that was successful and is now living a normal life in Ohio.
Dakota was born with only 2 valves in his heart and has a hard time keeping up with other kids his age. His "party" raised $10,000 to help him get the other valve he needs when his heart has grown to full size, but his parents decided to donate the money to the children's wing of the Cape Coral Hospital ER. "When Dakota needs his operation, I KNOW the community will respond," said Dakota's dad.
Emma, born in 2002, was diagnosed with a brain tumor at just three months. Her rare type of cancer (hypothalmic optic-nerve glioma) has caused her to go blind and interfered with her growth and development. You helped us raise about $6,000 to help with her expensive, intensive, and ongoing therapy, and this brave little trooper keeps proving the doctors wrong.
Spunky little Catie was our 2008 Pete Renner Poker Run recipient, for which we raised about $11,000 to help toward her ongoing battle with a large and aggressive brain tumor. Thank you to all who helped us throughout her event, and a special posthumous thank you to Patti Morris, whose indomitable spirit was largely responsible for its success.
*Acceptance of help by The Pete Renner Foundation implies consent to use the child's likeness and story to not only promote other Foundation ventures but also to give hope to others who may find themselves in similar circumstances. We strive to make reasonable effort to protect the child's privacy. The amounts of money raised for past recipients and listed here are in no way a guarantee that we can raise a certain amount for any future recipient. However we do work very hard to ensure that all events net as much money as humanly possible for the recipient's medical expenses, by keeping expenses down to their minimum. We, from the founder/president on down, do not draw a paycheck nor get any reimbursement for personal expenses incurred while conducting Foundation business, and work solely on a volunteer basis.
